Michigan Corps Fellow Spotlight: Elyse Croce
6/9/2013

Michigan Corps launched our Fellowship Program to extend an opportunity for dedicated Fellows to build the work of our exciting social change initiatives! Read about one of our summer Fellows, Elyse, who is excitedly supporting the work of Michigan Corps as a Digitial Communications Fellow!

Elyse joined Michigan Corps' Fellows Program this summer to support our digital communitcations strategy! We're excited to introduce Elyse with a recap on the following conversation about her experience as a Fellow!

What drew you to the opportunity to join Michigan Corps' Fellows program?
I was drawn to the Michigan Corps' Fellows program because of the connections, hands on involvement, networking tools, and learning opportunities the program presents. Michigan Corps' vision is congruent with the type of work I plan to do, so it is nice to have some experience at such a young age. In addition, the team is extremely helpful with regard to equipping me with the tools I need to continue networking and innovating in the future.

Tell us a bit about your day-to-day work as a Fellow.
I get here around 9 am and leave at about 5 pm. The energy is always positive and the work environment is laid back and relaxed. This makes for an easy workspace. I work on multiple projects a day, but I mostly work on social media development, blog writing, and interviews. Working with only 3 other people encourages me to be independent.

What do you hope to do after your Fellowship?
After my Fellowship, I am hoping to remain working with Michigan Corps, at least to some degree, the following summer. In addition, I will continue pursuing a B.A. dual degree in Social Entrepreneurship and Sociology at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Ultimately, I would like to open a homeless center/shelter for women and the LGBTQA community in downtown Detroit. I am also interested in doing work overseas. Anything that promotes social change and social innovation is something that I am fascinated by and hope to take part in.

What's your favorite Michigan memory?
I don't have a specific memory that I would say is my favorite, but I do have fond memories of barbeques at the park and boat rides with my family during the summer. We used to spend the whole summer at the park, and that's something that I will always look back at and smile about.
